Leaving Aberdeen at 7.0am we started walking up the Coire Mhic Nobuil in Torridon at 11.0am crossing the burn near it's junction with the Allt a Bhealaich and heading up the lower slopes of the Horns of Alligin at the East end of Beinn Alligin. We were there to meet up with two of our companions, who were Munro bagging the Beinn and soon we spotted them descending the Horns and gave them a surprise by appearing from behind some rocks after they had just passed us unseen!

Next morning we set out on the Mountain Trail at Beinn Eighe National Nature Reserve which starts at the Coille na Glas Leitire forest and ascends 1800ft over quartzite  to the Conservation Cairn before descending passed the Lunar Loch by the Allt na-Aiordhe Gorge. The trail is some 4 miles long and passes through the remnants of the great Caledon Pine forest and features indicator points on the trail related to a brilliant guide covering all aspects of wildlife, geology, vegetation and terrain.In the afternoon we drove to Shieldaig and, after a welcome beer at the Badachro Inn, took to the hills to locate the wreck of the wartime American Liberator plane which crashed on it's way to Inverness in 1943 killing all 15 on board. The wreckage is spread over a considerable area and a memorial plaque, with all the names of those who perished, is mounted on a cliff outcrop overlooking the largest parts of the aeroplane near Lochan Sgeirach south of Sidhean Mor.

On Sunday we walked in to Drochaid Coire Roill to ascend Spidean Coir'an Laoigh(903m) before traversing the stony ridge to Beinn Damh itself.The cloud level dropped suddenly and a violent wind got up making it difficult to stand, especially as the rain had made the quartzite blocks lethal to stand on. Soon visibility made navigation impossible without GPS and compass and we were glad to get back to Loch Torridon intact.
