Because of this there are plenty idyllic sandy beaches with hardly anyone in sight. West coast is also ideal hillwalking country holding the majority of Corbetts and Munros .Offshore, of course, there lies the Inner and Outer Hebrides and the beautiful islands of Skye, Mull, Eigg, Rum, Canna, Coll, Tiree, Raasay, Jura,Islay and Colonsay. Off the west Ayrshire coast lies the island of Arran which is called "Scotland in miniature" with some of the best ridge walking in Britain. 40miles west of the Outer Hebrides on the coast lies the remote isle of St Kilda which is the breeding ground for the world's largest gannetry.
