Ben Nevis From Carn Mor Dearg

Friday 12th June ,7.5 miles . 3850ft ascent

As the forecast for Friday 12 June was total sunshine I decided to take advantage of such a photographic opportunity and left Aberdeen at 5.50 am to drive to Fort William. Parked at the Nevis Face car park in Torlundy at 9.0am and set off up the Allt A Mhuillin path through the forest to arrive in the open at 280 metres height an hour later. After a I/4 mile along the valley I branched off on to the Carn Beag Dearg slopes.

Several false summits later arrived at Carn - Dearg Mheadonach (1180 metres) after 31/2 hours climbing - the extra stone weight of the panoramic camera had taken it's toll ! A short rise from there to Carn Dearg Mor itself (1223 metres ) presented the classic view of the Arete leading to the North East Buttress on Ben Nevis. After enjoying an hour on the summit the laboured descent got me to the car at 5.0 pm and I was back home by 8.30pm after a day to remember.
